Smart Wave Energy Conversion via Learning and Low-Cost Control
SWELL develops data-driven model predictive control for wave energy converters, with the goal of improving real-time performance while keeping sensing and actuation requirements practical.
The project combines nonlinear hydrodynamic and data-driven modeling, efficient MPC design, experimental validation, and open-source software to help make wave energy more competitive.
This MSCA project is part of the Horizon Europe programme, 2025 call. The grant agreement has been signed under project number 101276493, and SWELL started on June 16, 2026.
The total funding assigned to the project is about €332K over 36 months: 16 months at UWA, 5 months at Imperial College London, and the remaining 15 months at the host institution, Politecnico di Torino.
